ABOUT DANDELI:

Dandeli “Garden of God” is situated on the riverbanks of Kali River. Dandeli falls in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, which has an interesting culture, drawing influences from both Karnataka and Maharashtra. It is the ideal destination for nature lovers as it offers a mix of adventure sports and wildlife. The Kali River, the Western Ghats in the background and the surrounding reserve forests, throw up various activities for adventure- and eco-tourism.

ABOUT RIVER KALI:

The Kali River or Kalinadi  (ಕಾಳಿನದಿ) is a river flowing through Karwar, Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka state in India. The river rises near Diggi, a small village in Uttar Kannada district. The river is the lifeline to some 4 lakh people in the Uttara Kannada district and supports the livelihoods of tens of thousands of people including fishermen on the coast of Karwar. There are many dams built across this river for the generation of electricity. One of the important dams build across Kali river is the Supa Dam at Ganeshgudi. The river runs 184 kilometers before joining Arabian Sea.

River Kali brings a fantastic opportunity to enjoy boating in the native saucer shaped coracles carved of bamboo. The river banks are thronged with avi-faunas, weaver birds, pied kingfishers, egrets and other species of avi-faunas.

DANDELI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

The Wildlife Sanctuary and the Anshi National Park located close to it contain huge areas of dense, deciduous forests. You can visit the place in open jeeps with trained guides to acquaint you with the diversity of the sanctuary.

The place is home to the famous Black Panther and many other animals including: Giant Iguana, Tiger, Leopards, Elephants, Gaur, Malabar Giant Squirrel and many more. The sanctuary also contains about 200 species of birds. You can engage yourself in bird watching while you are on a safari to the place.

You also have the option of going on treks which would lead you to hill tops from where the view is breathtaking.

Kali Tiger Reserve is located in Uttara Kannada District of Karnataka State. Covering the taluks of Haliyal, Karwar and Joida, the Kali Tiger Reserve (KTR) is part of the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. It lies between latitudes 14° 57’ 23.04” N; longitudes 74° 15’ 7.56” East and latitude 15° 9’ 56.16” North; longitude 74° 43’ 10.56” East.

The Tiger Reserve comprises of two important protected areas of the region viz., Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary and Anshi National Park. Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary (475.018 sq km) and Anshi National Park (339.866 sq km) are contiguous to each other and form a single tract of protected area located in biologically sensitive Western Ghats. These two protected areas are administratively unified under Dandeli-Anshi Tiger Reserve.
